If you suspect that anything on an official reporting form is incorrect, you need to speak to the agency that created the form and see about getting a corrected version. You can't change amounts or codes yourself.

More often than not, though, the Form 1099 is correct and there is some misunderstanding on the part of the recipient that results in the recipient believing that it is wrong.
