TurboTax has no means of calculating or knowing what your RMD is for a particular 1099-R form. The custodian of your account can help you with determining the RMD for the retirement account that you have with them as well as setting up a distribution of the RMD to you. If you withdrew the correct amount of RMD the amount of the RMD will get entered using the following information.
After you enter the 1099-R into TurboTax, you'll answer a few questions, then you'll get to a screen "Let's get more information about your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)". In this box, you'll enter the RMD given to you by the custodian of your account - if you only have one account and you withdrew the correct amount of RMD, then the number entered here will be the same as the amount entered in Box 1 on the 1099-R. Once you enter that number, you will see the TurboTax Federal Tax increase. The next screen asks "How much of this distribution applied to your December 31, 2025 RMD?" Click on The entire distribution applied to the December 31, 2025 RMD. Once you click on that, the tax due or refund due will return to where they were before you entered the RMD.
