So in reality, there’s no knowing what the time line really is. If your lucky they’ll get to you in a decent amount of time?

Basically yes ... the IRS had to make and implement a process  on how to identify and process these returns  mid tax season due to the tax law changes made by congress so they are doing the best they can to process MILLIONS of returns a second time.
