SSA Benefits

Virginia does not tax Social Security benefits, but it appears that the federal government does in some cases. If a portion of my Social Security benefits are taxed by the Federal Government, can I subtract that amount from my Virginia State Return?

SSA Benefits

You don't need to.  Any social security benefits included in taxable income on your federal tax return will automatically be subtracted from your taxable income in your state tax return by TurboTax.  This is true for any state that does not tax social security benefits, including Virginia.
