The TurboTax system has a glitch that is preventing me from uploading my social security information. I have called twice and been disconnected because I would not pay $90. This is extremely poor service. Why should I pay fir a TurboTax issue?

The Social Security Form SSA-1099 cannot be imported into the TurboTax program.
To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099
- Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
- Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
- Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
- Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
- On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button
Or enter ssa-1099 in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to ssa-1099

A portion of Social Security Income may be taxable. When you report your income, TurboTax will automatically calculate the taxable amount.
You should receive a Form 1099-SSA from Social Security which can be entered directly into TurboTax.
To report your Social Security Income:
- Login to your account.
- Select Federal from the left menu
- Go to Wages and Income then Income and Expenses.
- Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Securities.
- Select Strat next to Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)

I don't have a 1099 from SSA, but have the amount I received. Will this be enough to continue?

It would be safer if you got a copy of the form, because it may have a number on it other than just what you received (like the gross amount less any deductions).
If you get any of the numbers wrong, this will throw your return into manual processing, which is a nightmare this year - you want to avoid that as much as possible.
To get a replacement copy, please see the Social Security Administration on this webpage that gives contact information.

Are you running the TurboTax application as an Administrator? If not -
Save the tax return.
Close the TurboTax program
Right click on the TurboTax icon on your computer screen
Click on Run as Administrator
Start the TurboTax program and see if the problem persists
