It asks EVERYONE that question. If you did not receive a lump sum payment then click NO.
The question in TurboTax asks whether you received a lump-sum payment IN 2023 for an earlier year. It is not asking about lump-sum payments that you received in earlier years. If there is no lump-sum payment on your 2023 SSA-1099, answer No.
Maybe too tired to be working on this! That makes sense, what doesn't make sense is after clicking YES, the Business Edition of Turbotax asks what year was it paid and I inputted 2015.....then the next question is how much it was for. Seems if it was only 2023 it would not allow a year before 2023, nor would it allow 2015 then ask how much?
It doesn't ask what year the lump-sum was paid. It asks what year the payment was FOR. That will always be earlier than the current year. You have to read the questions very carefully, and keep clear about the distinction between the year that the lump-sum was paid and the year that it was for.
But in your case, you did not receive a lump-sum payment in 2023, so you have to answer No to the first question. Then you will not see any more questions about a lump-sum payment, so there will be no confusion.
Got it, everyone Thanks! SURE wish the tax Code was simplified. In this case an error of my reading skills.
Thanks Again!
