If you only get SS it is not taxable and you do not have to file a return. And there is no benefit in claiming dependents or deductions. And you can't efile a return with no taxable income. If you want to file you will have to print and mail it. Or you can try adding $1 of interest to let you efile. Make up a fake 1099Int.
I wanted to file due to the Stimulus 2020 that was just passed to see if I am eligible for any funds (up to $1,200). I haven't done my taxes for several years as I am over 74
We don't know yet how it will work. It may be based on a 2018 return since 2019 has been extended to July 15. anything you file now will probably be too late. So they will need to figure out a different way to pay it out. And the Stimulus is not final until the President signs it.
