Pensions of NY State Government are tax exempt (in addition to the 20K each Pension and Annuity Exclusion) , but where do I subtract these from Retirement Income?

This is all entered in the Federal interview.

When you enter your 1099R, make sure NY is in box 13. After you enter that NY is your state you will see a list asking "Where is this distribution from?" (see screenshot). This will all flow to your New York return. The exclusion will be on line 29 of the NY Form IT-201.

Yes, Turbotax calculates the $20,000 exclusion for each person for line 29, BUT IT DOES NOT INCLUDE the "Pensions of NYS and local governments" on line 26, which is actually a much larger deduction for me (70k for 2017), and not included in the line 29 exclusion.  There seems to be no way to alter  NY exclusions calculated by Turbotax.  Last year I had to submit an amended IT-201-X after filing with Turbatax and paying $50.  This year I will not file NYS with Turbotax.  This is a big FLAW in the Turbotax program for NYS retirees.
