pension plan 1099r

my husbands pension plan pays monthly payments and federal taxes are taken out  when input the information it asks what portion of the total amount is RMD  its my husbands tax info and pension he's 76  I Didn't know pensions had required minimum distribution  how do I find out about this I called the pension they had no helpful information

RMD stands for required minimum distribution. It's the minimum amount of money you're required to take out of your retirement plan once you turn 70 1/2. RMD rules apply to all employer-sponsored retirement plans Follow the directions in this link to determine your husband's required minimum distribution amount:
