Over contribution to 401k

Hello,

I switched jobs from private sector to government last year , 2018, and just found that $193 was over contributed over all 401k (sum of 401k from private sector and TSP from government). I contacted tsp as I'm with government now but was told that correction request should be made by March 15th, which is 10 days over. They cannot do anything and asked me to contact previous company.

For previous company, I rolled over my 401k to IRA. so i don't think it's possible to correct.

In such case, should I withdraw $193 dollars by myself from TSP or rollover IRA? I'm concerned not just double tax but it will bring big issue later. Since I have about 3weeks, I'd like to correct things as much as I can.

Please provide the advice. Thanks.

Over contribution to 401k

Yes, you can withdraw the excess contribution yourself, and report this as a 2019 1099-R in your return.
