It depends. If you are looking to claim your father as a dependent on your return, his social security income (if by itself), is not considered reportable income for the $4050 limit. Thus, if you provide more than half of his support, and social security is his only income, you may claim him. In addition, if you are otherwise claiming single, your father would qualify you to claim Head of Household as well, if you provide at least half of his household support (slightly different test).
