My 1099R from military retirement has the same amount in block 1, 2a. I'm 80% through the VA,only 20% of my retirement should be taxed. How do I amend my tax returns?

VA disability payments are not taxable or entered on a tax return.

Military retirement pensions reported on a Form 1099-R are taxable on a federal tax return.

See this IRS website for veterans disability severance payments if this is applicable - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/veterans-owed-refunds-for-overpayments-attributable-to-disability-sever...

See this website for information - https://themilitarywallet.com/va-disability-compensation-affects-military-retirement-pay/

To enter a form 1099-R -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  • On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

Or enter 1099-r in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on the Magnifying Glass.  Click on Jump to 1099-R
