My 1099-R has gross distribution of $16k, but $6k in taxable amount. TurboTax is including the whole $16k in income. Why?

How do I make sure that I'm not being taxed on the whole $16K when only $6K is taxable?

If you are looking at a summary screen or review screen those show the full amount as income and lump a lot of stuff together. You need to check the actual 1040 form and make sure it's right.  Check 1040 lines 4b and 5b.
