mold remediation/repair

TurboTax Home & Business:
We had damage to our kitchen( drywall, cabinets, flooring) for a persistent water leak from the dishwasher which was not apparent ( the leakage primarily drained into a crawl space). There was mold, and we had remediation and repair done.
I thought this could be deducted as a casualty loss, but I do not find a place to put it.

Sorry--no.   Only casualty losses that are the result of being in a federal disaster area are deductible.  You have personal expenses that are not deductible.   Hope some of it was at least covered by homeowner insurance.

No.  First of all, casualty losses are only deductible if the loss was caused due to a federally declared disaster (like a flood or wildfire).

Second, damage caused by a slow leak over time is never considered a casualty loss, even if it was otherwise deductible.  A casualty loss is a sudden, unexpected and unpreventable event.  A slow leak is not detectable and it is preventable, at least in theory, by early detection.
