Is a distribution from a tribe (Navajo Nation) considered a local government pension or Federal government pension, or neither?

It depends upon what the distribution is for.

If this is a distribution from your tribe and is considered a per capita distribution, it would be reported on Form 1099-MISC.  This would be reported as other income and is considered taxable.  Please see this link for additional information.  For guidance on how to enter this into TurboTax, please refer to the steps here.

If your income is from something else, the IRS has a list of FAQ's that you can also refer to.  If you have more specific questions as to how this income was reported to you, please comment and we will do our best to assist.
