I NEED TO CORRECT THE PAYER INFO FOR A 1099-R

Yes, if you have already filed your tax return, you may need to create an amended 2016 tax return to correct this information.

However, we recommend that you wait to amend until after the IRS has processed your original return and you have received your refund (if any). The final version of the form needed to amend your 2016 tax return will not be available until February 11, 2017

Note that in many cases, the IRS will correct minor errors on your return and send you a letter of explanation. This is another reason to wait before creating an amended return.

Once the form is ready, TurboTax can help you file the amendment.  To learn more about amending your tax return, please review the information in the following links included below.

If you have not already filed your return, you may go back to the Retirement section and correct your entries.

The easiest way to find this section of TurboTax is to use the Search box at the top right side of the TurboTax header. Click on the magnifying glass, type in "1099-r", hit Enter, and click on "jump to 1099-r" to go directly to beginning of this topic.
