I'm in a nursing home long term. 100% of my pension checks go directly to the nursing home. Turbo tax is saying that I owe federal taxes. What am I missing?

It appears you are using the Free Edition.

You can deduct the portion of your nursing home care as a medical deduction to the extent you received medical services. You care facility can provide this information.

By claiming this deduction, you should remove your taxes due.

I suggest TurboTax Free File Edition. 

While the name is similar to Free Edition, there are no upgrade fees that would be required to claim your medical deductions.

To you qualify

Make less than $34,000 a year or

Qualify for the Earned Income Credit or

Active military making less than $66,000
