To enter your Form 1099-B box 8, 9, 10 and 11 information in TurboTax Online:
Continue entering all information as appropriate.
Thanks, that got me in the right section there, but again the TurboTax questions don't line up with my simple 1099-B. In the numbered boxes I only have values in 8, 9, 10, and 11; that's all, nothing else, no other values, and no checkboxes are checked, very simple. The TurboTax prompt does not line up since box 8 is a numeric value on my form but TurboTax wants a description (see image). I think this refers to a different form somehow.
When entering the TurboTax screen I selected "Net section 1256 contracts loss election" and then on the next page I selected "Section 1256 contracts marked to market," but I don't think that should matter much.
Is this the right TurboTax screen for my futures account 1099-B? It seems like it should be correct but the disconnect with box 8 is bothering me. Thanks for any help!
The form on TurboTax: 1256 Contracts and the other options I mentioned above bring me here:
Yes, this sure is the right screen. I would suggest that you call your broker and find out what line 8 represents. On the actual Form 6781 itself, the calculated form form for Contracts and Straddles, line 8 represents the Short term capital gain which is part of Line 11, the total profits. Therfore, by entering Total profits in Line 11, you are in essence picking up Line 8 which is the Short term capital gain. But like I said, confirm this information with your broker.
only line 11 is of interest. you can ignore all the other lines on your statement.
