I am reviewing my 1040form, and I noticed that I put an IRA deduction, I mistook it for my 401k as I don’t have any IRA account. What should I do?

Did you file it yet?  You put down you made an IRA contribution on 1040 line 10 (from Schedule 1 line 20)?  If you already filed and it was Accepted or you mailed your return you will have to amend it.  You need to wait for it to be fully processed and you get the first refund. Then you can Amend.

Yes, I already filed it couple of months ago and got my refund. Do I just need to fill up new form? And  leave line 10 and line 20 blank? I also

put the same amount on form IT-201 line 18.

You must use Form 1040X to add or correct information on a return already filed. that is the only way it can be done.

@fanfare  Can I also do that online? I mean file 1040x via turbotax?

Yes.  If you efiled the original return you can efile the 1040Xamended return.  You will probably need to pay some back.

Go by the actual 1040X.  Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund.  If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16.  If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.

If you have a tax due, do not send the 1040V.  Just include a check with the 1040X.  Ignore the 1040V.  That is for the original return or what the original return would have been if it didn’t need correcting.  Don’t pay the amount on the 1040V.  Pay the amount on the actual 1040X line 20.
