I am retired and have lived in Mexico since 2017. Do I have to file a state return?

If you have not lived or worked in one of the US states during the tax year and you do not have any income sourced from one of the US states then you do not need to file a state tax return.

I thought once you were past retirement age you did not have to report you SSA benefits on your federal tax return?
