You should have a 1099-R for the distribution.   NOTE: that no part of a RMD can be rolled over - only amounts distributed in excess of a RMD can be rolled over within 60 days of the distribution.

Enter a 1099-R here:

Federal Taxes,
Wages & Income
I’ll choose what I work on (if that screen comes up),
Retirement Plans & Social Security,
IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).

OR  Use the "Tools" menu (if online version under My Account) and then "Search Topics" for "1099-R" which will take you to the same place.

Be sure to choose which spouse the 1099-R is for if this is a joint tax return.
Be sure to pick the correct 1099-R type: Standard 1099-R, CSA-1099-R, CSF-1099-R, RRB-1099-R.

If this was a rollover  answer the question that you moved the money to another retirement account (can be the same account). The screen will open up with choices of where it was moved.

[NOTE: When you get to the "Your 1099-R Entries" screen where you can add another 1099-R, use "continue" to keep going as there are additional interview questions after that screen in most cases. You can always return as shown above.]

It will show as income on the summary screen which shows gross income, not taxable income.

The income will be reported on line 4a on the 1040 form with the word “ROLLOVER” next to it if it was a rollover.

The taxable amount will go on line 4b.  In the case of a rollover, that amount of rollover will be zero.

how to enter an ira rollover and RMDs on 2019 1040?

In 2019 I rolled over the funds from a traditional IRA to another traditional IRA.  This was not a bank to bank transfer.  I received a check which then I used to open the new IRA account.  I understand that this is a reportable event so it must be reflected in the 2019 1040.  Since I am required to do so, I also took the required minimum distribution from this account before I closed the account.  I also took all the RMDs from my other IRAs.  So I need to report a nontaxable distribution (rollover) as well as the taxable (RMDs) distributions.  How do I do this on the 1040?

Thank you for your reply, it was very helpful.  If I understand correctly the amount rolled over will be reported in line 4a and the taxable RMD amount will go in 4b.  I also need to add the word rollover.  I will input all this into TT and see how it turns out.  Thank you again for your help.

The total of the gross amounts (box 1) of all of the Forms 1099-R with the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box marked will be included on line 4a, not just the amount rolled over.  The portion of that total that was over will be excluded from the amount on line 4b and TurboTax will automatically include the word ROLLOVER appear next to the line.
