How are senior citizens taxed ? My husband is 69 yrs old and is retired and receives SS. I am 64 yrs old and receives SS disability.

We both receive retirement  income from ,former employers as well.

You are taxed the same way everyone else is ... if you have enough taxable income then you will pay taxes.  Complete a return to see if you owe or get a refund.

You are not taxed any differently.  If you are 65 or older you get an extra higher Standard Deduction.

For 2019 the Standard Deduction is

Joint 24,400+ 1,300 for each 65 and over or blind

Married filing Separate 12,200 + 1,300 for 65 and over or blind

Up to 85% of Social Security becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security, reaches:

Married Filing Jointly: $32,000

Single or head of household: $25,000

Married Filing Separately: 0
