Hardship withdrawl

I tried to with a small portion of my retirement to pay for my fathers funeral and submitted all the required paperwork and was still denied. They didn't really explain their reason it just said something like due to irs rules and regulations. Can anyone who has gone through this help?  I never thought it would be this confusing.

Hardship withdrawl

It's totally up to the plan administrator to either allow or deny a hardship distribution based on the reason that you give for needing the distribution.  Apparently they don't believe that the need to pay for a funeral qualifies (assuming that that is what you told them in your request for the hardship distribution).
