Please make sure you have a regular 1099-R and not a CSA-1099-R or CSF-1099-R.
If it is as CSA-1099-R or CSF-1099-R then make sure you selected the right one on the "Who gave you a 1099-R?" screen.
If it is a regular 1099-R then please double check the year. If it says 2020 then the issuer did not use the updated form. You can see if they will correct it.
Thank you, but I still don't understand what happened. I have 1099-R's from multiple sources and they are all identified as reporting information for year 2020. The OPM statement of annuity paid is identified as both "Form 1099-R" and "Form CSA 1099R (Rev 1/2021)" . I think my best approach will be to wait for IRS to kick back my filing with the usual cryptic explanation, and do whatever I'm told to do. (I'm not being sarcastic. Just elderly.)
