Entering RMDs for inherited roth IRAs

Hey All,

I have a Roth IRA that I inherited from my mother when she passed away in 2019.  As I do every year, I took RMDs in 2024 and got a 1099R from the service provider.  During the interview, I entered that this is an inherited account with information about who I inherited it from.  It doesn't ask me about RMDs at this point.

During the federal review in TurboTax online, it's prompting me to enter and RMD amount for the RMD excess accumulation worksheet.  The problem is that it puts this value in line A of the worksheet ("Required RMD amount") but gives me no way to enter a value in line B ("Amount distributed in 2024").   Thus, it thinks I missed and RMD and starts assuming I owe penalties.  It then asks if I withdrew the remaining RMD during the correction window.

How can I enter that I did in fact take the required RMD?  I can't seem to directly access the worksheet.

Entering RMDs for inherited roth IRAs

You should have been asked about RMD during the Form 1099-R entry.  Return to the IRA, 401(k), and pension withdrawals and Review your 1099-R entry.

  • Verify that all boxes are entered correctly, and Code 4 is in Box 7
  • On the page with "Do any of these situations apply to you?" Indicate you inherited the IRA.
  • Next page/question is "Who did you inherit this IRA from?"  Indicate "Someone else who passed away"
  • Answer question about nondeductible contributions and Continue
  •  Indicate When your mother was born and Continue
  • The next page should ask you about your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
  • Enter the amount that is RMD and Continue
  • Indicate that the entire distribution applied to 2024 RMD (if it did)
  • That should finish your 1099-R entry
