Do I need to report my non dividend distributions?

In most cases, no. A non-dividend distribution is a return of your investment. These distributions reduce your basis in the stock or mutual fund and aren't taxed until your basis (original investment) is reduced to zero.

However, if the distribution reduced your basis beyond your original investment, you would report the distribution as a capital gain on Schedule D (Investment Sale).
