You do have to claim the 1099R for retirement in the first year (and any other year you get one) of retirement.

Congratulations on your retirement!

Social Security must be reported also on the return (1099SSA) and it can be taxed up to 85% of the amount you received, depending on the other income you have reported on your return.

To enter a form 1099-R
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

To enter your Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099
•    Click on Federal Taxes
•    Click on Wages and Income
•    Click on I'll choose what I work on
•    Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
•    On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button
