A. No.
If Social Security was your only income you are not required to file a tax return unless you have a 1095A for marketplace insurance or unless you had tax withheld from your SS and need to seek a refund.
Thank you. Nope, only social security. Why did turbo tax have me fill out all those forms and answer all those questions then tell me I have to mail in because I can not e-file as my income and refund are $0? It should have just said: "Looks like you do not need to file a return, thanks for using turbotax."
That is my understanding as well. I wonder why turbo tax made me fill out all those forms for 40 minutes instead of telling me I do not need to file?
Some people just really want to file a tax return even if they do not have to. If you were not sure if you needed to file, you could have asked here in the forum before you filled out the forms. If the only income you had to enter was SS, filling out the forms was not too demanding, though.
By the way, Hal_AL, thank you for your answer.
True, it only took me 40 minutes but, I had to pull files from last year on donations, car registration fees and refunds from 2021, etc. Just seems like it should have known I did not need to file and gave me that option is all. Thank you.
