How to input IRA contributions and backdoor roth that is made in 2018 but for 2017 ?

I made 2017 IRA contribution in 2018 April, and I made a 2018 contribution as well in 2018 June. I convert both to Roth IRA. All contribution are non-tax deferred. so I have a 1099-R of 11000 .

I followed this question, https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/3582070-backdoor-roth-ira-contribution

When I import 1099-r, it said "Good news, you don't owe extra tax based on box 7 entry, but my taxes due rose by $1500.

When I force change the 1099-r to 5500, there is no tax rose. My questions is how can I input the amount that I contributed for 2017 in year 2018?

How to input IRA contributions and backdoor roth that is made in 2018 but for 2017 ?

The 2017 non-deductible that you reported as non-deductible on your 2017 tax return should have added a 8606 form to the 2017 tax return reporting the non deductible contribution on line 1,3 and 14.

When you enter the 2018 1099-R when it asks for the prior years non-deductible contributions you enter the 2017 8606 line 14 amount.

Enter a 1099-R here:

Federal Taxes,
Wages & Income
I’ll choose what I work on (if that screen comes up),
Retirement Plans & Social Security,
IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).

OR Use the "Tools" menu (if online version under My Account) and then "Search Topics" for "1099-R" which will take you to the same place.

Be sure to choose which spouse the 1099-R is for if this is a joint tax return.
Be sure to pick the correct 1099-R type: Standard 1099-R, CSA-1099-R, CSF-1099-R, RRB-1099-R.

[NOTE: When you get to the "Your 1099-R Entries" screen where you can add another 1099-R, use "continue" to keep going as there are additional interview questions after that screen in most cases. You can always return as shown above.]

The interview will ask if you tracked any non-deductible contributions - answer yes. It will then ask you to enter any prior non-deductible contributions. If not automatically carried over from past years data transfer, use the box 14 value from the most recently filed 8606 form. You must then enter the December 31, total value of all existing Traditional IRA, SEP and SIMPLE IRA accounts that you have so that the taxable/not-taxable part of the distribution can be calculated on a new 8606 form lines 6-15 with the new carry forward non-deductible basis on line 14 to be used in the same way for the next distribution.

I made 2017 contribution after I file my 2017 tax. where can I find my 8606 form?

How to input IRA contributions and backdoor roth that is made in 2018 but for 2017 ?

If you did not report it on your 2017 tax return, you will need to amend 2017 and add it.

How to input IRA contributions and backdoor roth that is made in 2018 but for 2017 ?

Correction. I found my 8606. but when I import 1099-r from fidelity, it did not "asks for the prior years non-deductible "

How to input IRA contributions and backdoor roth that is made in 2018 but for 2017 ?

See answer above - the question is after the 1099-R summary screen.   Be sure you go through the complete interview.

How to input IRA contributions and backdoor roth that is made in 2018 but for 2017 ?

I went through the complete interview. The closest thing I can find is the cost basis in Dec 31, 2017. And if I put the 8606 number there, the tax remain same. However, because I technically contritbued in April 2018. so the Dec 2017 the number is 0. If I input 0 , I still get a 1500$ rose

How to input IRA contributions and backdoor roth that is made in 2018 but for 2017 ?

Your *2017* contribution made in 2018 should be on a 2017 8606 line 1 with any other before 2017 contribution on line 2 and the total on lines 3 and 14.    Line 14 from the 2017 8606  is what carries to 2018.

When you enter that in the 1099-R interview for prior year contributions it will go on line 2 of a new 2018 8606 form.

Your *2018* contribution that you made in 2018 for 2018 should already be on line 1 of that 8606 form form when you entered the contribution in the IRA contribution section.   The total of the 2017 (line1) and 2018 (line 2) contributions should be on line 3 that will be used to offset the tax on lines 6-18.
