Conversion from BDA IRA to Roth IRA

I converted some of the funds from BDA IRA to Roth IRA. I received 1099R form with Distribution code 4 (Death) with IRA/SIMPLE/SEP box marked X.

I entered this 1099R under income->retirement plan IRA.  After entering 1099R, It asked amount SPOUSE NAME AND year of Death. Next Question "Transferred Fund" has option of:

1. "I put money into my own IRA account in 2022"

2. "I put money into my own IRA account in 2021 or Prior year"

3. "I did not put money into my own IRA account"

Since money is put into ROTH IRA account, I had to answer "3".

Then it took me next question if I put money into HSA account --> NO

I did not see any option that shows I put money into ROTH IRA account.

I know I have to report this somehow but not sure how.

Thanks in advance for help

Conversion from BDA IRA to Roth IRA

You don't need to indicate that you rolled the funds over to a ROTH IRA account. The fact that you withdrew the funds from a traditional tax favored retirement account and did not roll them over to another traditional account will mean the distribution is taxable. If there is an amount listed in box 2(a) that will be the taxable amount that will appear on your tax return. If 2(a) is blank, the distribution will still show as taxable as long as you don't indicate that the funds were moved to a traditional IRA account. So, you won't see a question regarding rolling the funds to a ROTH IRA account.

"you won't see a question regarding rolling the funds to a ROTH IRA account."

You won't see the question because what you did is not permitted.

you can't roll funds into or out of an inherited IRA.

a conversion is a treated as a rollover for Roth purposes.

the fact that your code is 4 means your contribution into a Roth IRA is an excess contribution to the extent it exceeds your allowed Roth contribution amount, if any.

Only a spouse beneficiary can elect to treat the Inherited IRA as their own and have it retitled with spouse as owner.

at that point it in no longer an inherited IRA and can be converted to Roth
