Can my spouse (does not work) and I (retired in 2023) both contribute $7,500 to each of our Roth IRA's for this tax year 2023 if box 1 wages and tips for 2023 W2 is $20K?

only other contribution was to work 401K.  No other IRA's.  My W2 was for unused vacation days and bonus.

You can have both a 401(k) and a Roth IRA at the same time.

If contributions are made only to Roth IRAs (no traditional IRA), your contribution limit is generally the lesser of:

  • $6,500 ($7,500) if you are age 50 or older), or
  • Your taxable compensation.

When filing joint return a non-working spouse can contribute to a spousal IRA.
