Are Social Security Survivors Benefits Taxable?

If your children receive Social Security survivors/disability benefits, that is income to them, not to you. You do not enter it on your tax return. Look at Box 2 of the SSA-1099 and you should see the child’s SSN.
If that is the only income a child has, then the child does not have to file or report it either.
If the child has enough other income to be required to file, then the child reports the SS on the child's return.

Your survivors/disability benefits are reportable but not necessarily taxable unless there is other taxable income in your return. However, if this is your only income for the the year, then you do not need to file a tax return.

Can my child still be a dependent on my tax return?

Are Social Security Survivors Benefits Taxable?

Yes if they are under 19 or under 24 and a full time student.  Or they had less than $4,300 income other than the Social Security.  You don't report their income on your return.  If they only got Social Security or SSDI or ssi they don’t have to file a return and nobody reports it.
