1099-s is confusing me

We were forced to sell our home that he and his sister inherited

Please clarify your question.

• Who had to sell the home?
• What was your relationship to "he and his sister"?
• Did you get a value of the home when they inherited it?
• Did the brother or sister ever live in the home?
• How long was it from the time they inherited it until they sold it?

report the same on Form 8949 whether or not you got  a 1099-S.

if two persons are involved, prepare all amounts as if there were one owner.

then multiply all those amounts by your percentage share to get the amounts for your own tax return.
