1099-R, Box 8 Other

I received a 1099-R with a Distribution code 4 (Death). Box 1 and 2a are populated with the amount of my total distribution. Turbo Tax has put a value in Box 8, Other. But my 1099-R doesn't even show Box 8. Why did Turbo Tax enter a value in a field that isn't even on my form? How did Turbo Tax determine that amount? I don't know how that value in Box 8 affects my taxes or if I should delete it or not since it's not even on my copy of my 1099-R. I've searched online and haven't found an answer. I'm stumped...

Since you mention your form 1099-R does not have box 8, you may not be entering data in the correct TurboTax form. Check your form 1099-R; I surmise it is a CSF 1099R.

  1. If so, go back and "Delete" the current 1099R
  2. "Add another 1099R."
  3. Continue
  4. Change how I enter my form
  5. I'll type it myself
  6. Select the CSF 1099R tile
