Stimulus check

I’m 20 and live with my parents. I worked part of last year and into the first of the month this year. I filed for 2019, but now I have no job. Am I still eligible for it?

My parents live off of Social security.

It depends. Did your parents file a tax return and claim you as a dependent? Did you indicate on your return that you can be claimed by someone else?

The IRS is making stimulus payments based on the information on your return and not necessarily matching it up with other filings to confirm. Per the IRS, you are not eligible if:

You can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return. For example, this would include a child, student or older dependent who can be claimed on a parent’s return.

It does not state that you are claimed, but rather that you are can be claimed on someone else's return.

Economic Impact Payments

The IRS has created a Get My Payment portal to track the progress of these payments for taxpayers. It is expected to be available beginning April 17, 2020.

My parents haven't filed in years apparently. I didn't indicate that I could be claimed by someone else.

Check the status of your payment here, you may need to copy and paste the link or go through the IRS if it doesn't work: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment?ftag=MSFd61514f

If you use this portal, make sure your have your 19 or 18 AGI from your tax return and the amount you received from your return or what you owed to confirm your identity.
