IRS Get My Payment Tool

My husband and I file joint taxes.  The Get My Payment Tool shows he is scheduled to get his stimulus payment on March 17, but for me, it shows I am eligible and the account it will go to, but pending a date for deposit.  I owe a federal (non-tax or child support) debt.  Could that be the problem?

IRS Get My Payment Tool

No, not for the third stimulus. It may still be issued. The stimulus payments themselves cannot be seized to pay an outstanding balance.

However, if the first and/or second stimulus was not paid, and the payments were claimed as a Recovery Rebate Credit, then the payment is reclassified as a refund. It could then be used to pay a federal debt.

For more information, see: How will the third stimulus impact me?

IRS Get My Payment Tool

Thank you.  I got the first and second payments no problem. Since we file jointly, and idea why it would show he is getting his payment on the 17th, but mine shows I'm eligible but no payment date is known?

The best thing to do is check back each day on the Get My Payment tool.  You can also check your IRS account for more detailed information.

  • The amount you owe, updated for the current calendar day
  • Your balance details by year
  • Your payment history and any scheduled or pending payments
  • Key information from your most recent tax return
  • Payment plan details, if you have one
  • Digital copies of select notices from the IRS
  • Your Economic Impact Payments (EIP 1 and EIP 2), if any

You can also:

  • Make a payment online
  • See payment plan options and request a plan via Online Payment Agreement
  • Access your tax records via Get Transcript
