My existing Discover credit card stopped updating in Mint. I tried to re-sync it in both application and online but to no avail. Instead of updating existing account, Mint constantly claims that there was an error and it cannot connect to Discover, and then creates a new account for the same card

I am having the same issue. It keeps giving me an error when trying to sync. I've tried dozens of times over the past week, and my account has outdated information.
I followed this user's advice. He or she changed browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) long enough to complete the fix:

I tried different browsers, different laptops, the app - everywhere the same error
The issue got resolved by adding a new Discover account to the profile. The old one was still unable to link, so I deleted it
