The worksheet showing last year's numbers is labeled as Sch E Wks (property address) when you are in Forms Mode or looking for the right worksheet to print. Looking at the previous year information and the information reported in 2024, it will probably appear that things are 'off' by a year, similar to the screenshot below:
If this is the error you are seeing, you can correct it on this screen by entering the value shown for 2022 on the line for 2023, and then entering a zero on the line for 2022.
It would be helpful to know whether this is your error or if there is something else that is not being carried over correctly. It would also be helpful to know the approximate date you started working on your return if you are experiencing an error. Please share if it was either before or after March 5-7 time frame.
If this is not the error, It would be helpful to have a diagnostic tax data file so that a report can be written to have it investigated further by the development team. The diagnostic file will not contain personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms.
If you would like to provide us with the diagnostic file, follow the instructions below and post the token number along with which version of TurboTax you are using and what states you are filing in a follow-up thread. If possible, please post a screenshot of the token number so that it will not be redacted.
Use these steps if you are using TurboTax Online:
If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:
I have the same problem.
As requested, the token number for year 2024 is:
[phone number removed][phone number removed]5;
and the token number for year 2023 is:
[phone number removed][phone number removed]8.
@The Expert
I forget to mention that I only file my return in California. I start to work on the return after March 7.
Thanks.
I'm having this exact same issue. I'm on the phone with turbotax support and they will not allow me access to the desktop version for free. I have no way to fix it other than to pay more money for something I don't want. I think this may be the last year for Turbotax for me, unfortunately.
Have the same issue token 1295833
Hi Jenava0,
What is the phone number that you use to reach Turbotax support?
Perhaps I can get some useful info and place here.
Thanks.
I'm having a related but separate issue, after manually entering the correct values for 2023.
My total disallowed passive losses for 2023 are coming up as $-62,424.
The program gives me an error that "the sum of losses in individual years should not be greater than the total loss ($-62,559).
I'm no math genius, but I think that $-62,424 is LESS than $-62,559.
I don't think I should be entering POSITIVE values in these fields, and even if I did, +62,424 is still less than +62,559.
Is this a software glitch?
I switched to the desktop version so I can correct the numbers. Now, I'm also getting the error:
"Passive Operating Loss ... sum of losses in individual years should not be greater than the total loss ($-16767.)"
Hi,
I am using the online Premium version and have the same issue. Cannot correct the error in Turbotax Online. The token number is 1297456. Could someone confirm if buying another Desktop version when I already bought the online version is the only way forward?
I have the same issue. I hate to have to download something to fix TT error.
What was your resolution? It seems that TT is putting the amount in 2022 rather than 2023 leaving 2023 blank?
Hello PatriciaV,
Has turbotax fixed this issue yet? It doesn't seem so a month later. It puts 'disallowed passive losses by year and type' in the wrong (previous) year.
Hello,
I talked to a TT rep and was referred to the following link:
It seems reasonable and passes the review. However, I am still not sure whether this is the right approach without the review and assurance from a tax expert on TT staff.
I have reviewed my tax return from both 2023 and 2024. The error is not due to the wrong data entry by TT software. I hope Intuit can quickly take a look at TT and give us a software update to fix this issue.
I have submitted the token number for both 2023 and 2024; however, no response from TT has been received.
Well that settles it, this is my last year using TT. Bye Felicia
right I think that's the answer, you should have, since loss should be negative, but in TT they expressed that in the colum as "unalllowed loss"
