Duplicate 1099-R data imported from my & my wife's accounts (Joint Return)

I imported 1099-R data from Fidelity from my retirement account & my wife's retirement account. Both accounts share the same JOINT brokerage account.  My account contains an IRA and a joint brokerage account record.  My spouses account has her IRA & the same joint brokerage account.  I found that TT thus downloaded duplicate info for the brokerage account.  At the import summary I CANNOT separate the brokerage account to delete one of them - I must delete both of the items on my account OR my wife's account.  At the dividend summary page, I also CANNOT delete any of the data (although it appears to have a "garbage can" symbol for each of the dividend records).  How can I delete the duplicate info?  Why does TT not at least recognize the potential duplicate downloads & flag them for additional review/removal on the initial import?

Duplicate 1099-R data imported from my & my wife's accounts (Joint Return)

If the duplicated entries are on the dividend income screen, follow these steps to get to the 1099-DIV input screen.

Once there, select Add/Edit to the right of Investments and Savings, (1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, Crypto).

  1. Scroll down to the income for your dividend income.  All of the dividend inputs should be shown here.
  2. Select the arrow to the right of the input to pull up more options.
  3. Select the trash can on the duplicated income in this section to remove it.

If the duplicated information is occurring on your retirement income screens, you can manually delete the input.

To delete your input in the 1099-R section, follow the steps in this link to get to the 1099-R input section.

Once there, select Update to the right of IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).

  • This will take you to the screen with all of your 1099-R entries.
  • Select Delete to remove the duplicated 1099-R.
