2018 1099-B monies not received until 2019

Some stock I owned for a long time was sold in an acquisition. I had to send in paperwork and received the check in 2019.  I now realize that the 1099-B has the sale as occurring in Nov. 2018 and for tax year 2018.  I did not report this on my 2018 taxes since I did not receive the payout until 2019.

Do I need to file an amended 2018 return?  Is is permitted to file this with 2019 taxes since that is when I received the money?  Thank you for any insight you can provide.

You will have to amend your 2018 tax return.  The sale of the stock did occur in 2018, even though you didn't get the money until 2019.  You cannot simply post it with your 2019 information.
