What-If Worksheet Frustrations!
After completing my Federal Return for the first time I thought I would run the What-If Worksheet. The worksheet showed a better refund filing Married Filing Separately than the Married Filing Jointly return. I then proceeded to spend several days and a dozen plus hours trying to recreate this benefit creating two separate MFS returns. Every result was a failure as it had us paying more taxes than the MFJ return. I even worked extensively with AI for help since TT Help was useless. We live in a community property state and apparently that’s where the issue is. AI even told me the TT What-If Worksheet does not appropriately allocate income, assets and taxes paid in community property state returns. It was a huge waste of time and an extremely frustrating experience. Thank you TT! Fix this.
