Schwab import fails

I have Home & Business 2019.  When I try to import my 1099, I get the message:

   This import was unsuccessful.

There isn't any tax-related info to import right now.

I contacted Schwab who said that files were released and available.  I have not had any import problems in previous years.  Please advise.

Hi,

Can I import my Schwab 1099 information to the CD/download version of TurboTax, or does the import function only work with an online version of TurboTax?

Both Online TurboTax and desktop software (CD/download) have the ability to import data from a financial institution.

That being said, some users have recently reported technical trouble importing from Schwab.  But this season's importing from Schwab only recently began, so there may be some hiccups, which may be in part due to the rush of users this week when 1099-B's became available.    Other users have said they were successful or required more than one attempt.    In any case, to prepare your Schwab account for importing, you'll need to go into your Schwab account settings, and in the Security Center temporarily allow third-party access.   After you import your data, you can go back to your Schwab account settings and reverse third-party access.

ADDENDUM 2/20/22, 10:20 PM Pacific:  After importing, verify that all of your data imported correctly.

Anything new on the Schwab/TurboTax 1099b import problems?

I don’t seem to be able to connect to Charles Schwab and download anything. WHY??  How do I correct this?

I have successfully downloaded from Schwab in print my 1099-B form, but on turbotax, using correct username and password I get "Login is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later or call customer service."  I have been getting this same message multiple times a day since Feb18th.  Schwab hasn't found any problem on their end....

I (and many others) have gotten that message repeatedly. In my case, after 10-20 tries over the weekend all ending with your result, I was successful at 7:30AM EST last Monday. Based on my experience, I believe the issue is bandwidth ie you are allowed to pass through the gateway when no one else is trying. (Assuming of course you have given Schwab permission to release your info to 3rd parties)

I also can’t import from my Schwab and even after spending over an hour on the phone with support, they just opened a ticket.  I’ve been using TurboTax on line at least for 8+ years now and if this can’t get resolved, I will have to look elsewhere for import to work: I have hundreds of transactions as well and can’t enter them manually. That’s not an acceptable workaround

I have tried to import 1099s from Schwab dozens of times. Schwab says my account is set up to allow this. Nothing works!

Schwab acknowledges there is problem with Turbotax.  Blame it all on Turbotax and they are getting hundreds of calls/day

same here using Premier 2021...CS only firm where import didn't work yet this year...always has done so. CS guy (who was helpful) said it is on the TurboTax end, not the CS end.

Today, March 8, the import worked for TurboTax Windows desktop version.

It did not work yesterday.

I do not know if something was fixed, but I did the following:

1) after loading TurboTax, I logged into TurboTax.

2) (a) opened a browser (Microsoft Edge) and logged into TurboTax online

    (b) opened a new tab (not a new window) and logged into Schwab.

in Schwab I chose to "remember device".

    (c) in Schwab I went to SecurityCenter|ThirdPartyAccessToAccountInformation  - Confirmed third party checked

    (d) in Schwab I went to SecurityCenter|ThirdPartyAccessToAccountInformation - clicked on "TurboTax" arrow and selected both "current Schwab brokerage accounts" and "Automatically link...."

3) (a) Went back to TurboTax windows desktop application and opened current tax file

    (b) selected Schwab for import and followed directions to log in.   A screen to accept legal terms came up which I accepted (not reading since not a lot of choice in declining), and import worked.

    (c) checked import and totals matched pdf of 1099 I downloaded from Schwab site.

Note on Step 2:
I did this because the TurboTax import popup for Schwab, and comments from other replies, implies a browser is happening behind the scenes to link TurboTax and Schwab.

Edge is my preferred browser in Windows settings. If Edge does not work, it might be due to a different preferred browser (like FireFox, or you have multiple browsers loaded on your PC.
So, if it does not work, open TurboTax and Schwab the same method in all the browsers on your PC.

It finally worked for me too .

I was attempting to import all day. Getting error msg 590...useless...on phone with Schwab and TT. No answers there. Turbo tax said it was a problem "across" and they are working on it(I guess not too hard).

Fix that worked for me:

I noticed that in the Security section of Schwab there was an option to bypass verification on trusted devices. I have had difficulty understanding how that feature worked. On a whim, I checked the box that said verify on all devices.

Bingo...got a text with code from Schwab. Entered it and sure enough download started and import was successful. I hope this helps someone from spending days trying to figure it out!
