Hello Turbo tax experts:
I want to import bunch of 1099 forms from E*Trade account - that is closed in midway 2025.
I have turbo tax desktop
When I login thru turbo tax desktop.. the closed account is not visible .. so I can’t download.
The turbo tax online has pdf scanner and it beautifully scans and produces 1099b and 1099 divs from pdf.. but desktop does not have one..

Is there any quick way to get those 1099 imported ?
I don;t want to manually enter 100+ entries..
Plus if I just do summary looks like I have to send the 1099 through mail .. I don;t want to do that also

please help me

Contact E*Trade to find out why it’s not available for import. You are right that Desktop cannot import a pdf or even attach them for e-filing.   You may be stuck with your worst case scenario. - the Form 8453 solution

You’re probably not going to be able to import 1099 data from E*Trade into TurboTax for a prior year.

One thing you can do is to import  the 1099 to the Online version and  then continue your online return in the Desktop program.  BUT that means starting over for everything if you don’t mind or haven’t done a  lot of current entries yet.  Did you use the Desktop program for 2024?   Start a new Online return and you can transfer 2024 from the Desktop program into Online.  Then  import  your 1099 info.

Then you can  switch and continue in the Desktop program.   Go up to File-Open and click on "Continue From TurboTax Online.

@VolvoGirl Does this mean a user can download a PDF of a 1099-B to their computer and then upload it into a version of TurboTax Online?

Check your E*Trade profile under Security Settings there is one for 3rd party data sharing which needs to be enabled to share data with Turbotax.  But it could also be a limitation of closed accounts.

Failing that, for the manual input option using summaries - you only need to send the 1099 thru mail if your summary has adjustments for wash sales, AMD etc, or any noncovered items.  you can split the 1099 and enter those exception items as ‘one by one’ with the details, and then the balance of your 1099 can go in as summary entries, then no import or mailing is required.  Entering the detailed items doesn’t take too long but it depends how many of the “100+” are these type of items.

At the end of 1099 entry process you will get a screen saying whether mailing is needed or not; you can also check in forms mode on the asset worksheet there is a checkbox at the bottom to show whether mailing is required.
