My security code to activate my 2019 software does not work

    I receive the following code:

    There was an error with validating your license code, please try again. Error code: 630

     

    I have tried several different downloads, a cd, etc. Running 64 bit Windows 10 with the most current updates.

     

    Anyone else having this issue?

    To best resolve this issue, please click here to get in contact with customer care. Please be sure to enter the correct product, edition, and a detailed description of your issue. If you see a message that says "We can't find an answer to your issue", please click the "Try Something Else" drop down. Once you fill out the form you will be given a service ticket number and a phone number to contact customer care.

    I googled the issues and found this thread as I joined the activation issue crew last night. Called customer service today, he thinks I'm lying and trying to activate the CD on 25 different computers. He also argues this is for personal use, not for multi-person use. The rep also does not have any visibility on what computers the serial number has been activated on. 

     

    The activation actually installed and activated on wife's laptop and my desktop fine. And the activation worked the first time when I did the CD install on a third computer (work laptop). After the software update, I re-started, software asked for the activation again, and it advised it has been installed on 5 different computers.  

     

    I am by no mean rich, but I can afford $30 software, I don't need to spend 35+ min during work hours waiting on the phone and have a rep accusing me of lying. And I certainly don't need to rant about any of these in an online forum if it was working as it should. I was merely trying to find a solution.

    I would suggest Forcefully uninstall and reinstall TurboTax. Uninstall everything before reinstall. Delete all folders, not just uninstall software.These folders are usually hidden, to unhide them choose tools (at top of any folder) - then folder options - then view then check show hidden files, uncheck when done

    the trouble caused by TT forcing the online authentication for those who purchased an install CD from a local store still exists. They need to work faster and make this a priority for their customers!

    I downloaded a free copy of turbo tax and I need a license code to activate it.

    Uh-oh.  I've never heard of a free copy of TurboTax desktop software.  What's the story on that?  I hope it wasn't some scam site.  You need to explain that more.

    Same problem. Screw me for installing and activating in April but procrastinating till July to file I guess?

    After booting the software up after not touching it for 3 months, I went through the update installations and then faced the prompt for activation again. Entered the code, 603. Went through the troubleshooting steps, nothing. Requested assistance by an agent, nope you apparently need to start a filing first. Went to the "contact" page on the website, page is blank.

    As much as I appreciate the UX I'm now completely done with TurboTax and will never look back.

    Sorry you're having trouble.  You have a paid desktop product (CD/download), so you should be able to get phone support at any stage of your product use.  They help with product installation, license activation problems, etc.  I've never seen anyone say the contact page is blank.  Are you referring to this link?

    If you're having trouble getting the form to display, try a different browser.

    It should provide you an incident number and a phone number, but only when they are open (see hours below.)  Be sure in the dropdown menu to indicate you are using the CD/download product and for what OS--Windows or Mac.

     

    Hours are 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern) 7 days.   If you use the form outside those hours, you'll get a message that says "closed" and to try again during business hours.

    Just began this nightmare with everyone else. Looking through log files it looks like they created an update that cannot decrypt the stored code.

    Have not seen this posted anywhere else but this looks like it is the problem to me. Oops I cannot decrypt lets make them waste a code.

    I presume you mean the license activation code.  What are you trying to do?  There are a couple of things that can require the activation code.  Are you trying to retrieve the installation file from your Online account and it's asking for the code?   Or are you at the end of the desktop software installation process, and it's asking for your license activation code?

     

    Please describe your issue more.   What and where is the roadblock, and is there any error message?

    I purchased the CD at Costco.

    -My license on the CD Wallet is 16 characters long and the CD based software only allows me to input 14 characters.

    -I tried downloading the online version but it never seemed to complete.

    -It seemed to accept the 16 character license but I noticed after I hit enter that the final letter was changed to lower case.

    -I tried to put in the product key to download again but was given a message that the product key is already in use by someone else.

    Email reply is fine and I will check my email tomorrow after church about 2:00 PM US CDT.

    This is a public Internet forum.  You should not post any personal info in this user community forum.  TurboTax Support will not email you, but no telling who else could potentially try to spam/scam you.  However, it looks like the forum privacy filter removed some of your info for your protection.

     

    The 2019 license was 14 characters long, but the 2020 license is 16 characters.   If your CD only accepted 14 characters, that makes me wonder if it was 2019 software product by mistake.

     

    As for getting the download, I don't know why it changed the last letter of your license code to lower case, but the license code is not case-sensitive, so it shouldn't matter.

     

    I don't think your situation can be resolved in this public user community forum, especially if it ends up needing a new license code, which cannot be provided in this forum.  It's likely you'll need to be questioned more about what all you are doing and experiencing.   You can phone the folks at TurboTax Support for realtime assistance.
