Are you using online or desktop? PDF auto-fill is only supported by online.

If you are using online, try breaking the PDF into smaller page segments.

If you’re using desktop, you can try the following:

  • Log into TurboTax Online using your same Intuit credentials.

  • Attempt to upload the Koinly PDF report into the online version.

  • Once successfully processed online, open your TurboTax Desktop software, start a new return, and select Continue from TurboTax Online to pull the imported crypto data seamlessly over to your desktop.

there are specific things you must do

TurboTax Online can import a Koinly PDF, but only if it’s the specific “Turbotax (Gain/Loss)” report generated from Koinly’s Tax Reports page, not a generic Koinly PDF like the 8949 IRS report
How the process works in 2026
As of January 2026, TurboTax removed CSV crypto import support, and Koinly now exports a PDF gain/loss report specifically formatted for TurboTax Online upload
Steps to import a Koinly PDF into TurboTax Online
Prepare your Koinly data

Fix any “missing purchase history” or “missing market price” warnings in Koinly.

Complete the 1099‑DA flow for each wallet in Koinly’s “Pending” section.

Generate the TurboTax report

In Koinly, go to Tax Reports → select Turbotax (Gain/Loss) → click Generate.

Download the ZIP file; it contains one PDF per wallet (or multiple parts if >900 disposals).

Upload to TurboTax Online

Log in to TurboTax → Federal → Income → Add/Edit next to “Investments and Savings.”

Answer “Yes” to investment income, choose Enter a different way, then Upload.

Select the first PDF from the Koinly ZIP, wait for processing, then repeat for each PDF.

Transactions will appear under a “Koinly” group in your crypto section.

Review

If all data imported cleanly, you can skip “Needs Review.”

If some fields are missing, use “Review” → “Edit” as needed.

Mike, I’ve followed these directions to a T as well and I’m also getting the same error as the OP here. I have the Koinly PDF’s but attempting to upload them (either 1 at a time or all of them at once) get’s me the same error message. Is it possible this is a TurboTax bug?

sorry. those were the TurboTax instructions. Contact support but the issue may be with PDF which prevents import.

I also wanted to chime in to say that I had the exact same issue yesterday with a freshly produced Koinly report.  I also followed those instructions exactly when attempting to upload to TurboTax online. I think there’s a bug.  Hopefully, this will get fixed before the 2026 tax season.

Same here. I uploaded the exact same files I uploaded previously, and it isn’t working anymore.
