Question

Foreign Earned Income Exclusion

Hi there!

I'm an American citizen living and working for a dutch company in the Netherlands. After doing my research I found that two options are available to file taxes this year: Form 1116 (Foreign Tax Credit) or Form 2555 (Foreign Earned Income).

I believe Form 2555 is more suited to my current situation, but there is still a question mark regarding the fact that I've worked for two employers during tax year 2022.

• Employer 1 from 1-1-2022 to 5-9-2022
• Employer 2 from 6-1-2022 to 31-12-2022 (still working there)

Because Form 2555 only allows for one employer, should I file two separate Form 2555 (one for each employer) and add up the total of earned income from both to include them on the 1040 form?

Could use a bit of guidance here 🙂
Thanks you in advance,

You should file only one form 2555.

You can report wages earned from more than one employer on form 2555. Just add up the wages from your 2 employers and report them on line 19 of form 2555.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Can you also please confirm that Form 2555 should be filed with Form 1040, Schedule 1 (Form 1040s1) ?
Is there anything else I should include in the mail regarding my earned income in the Netherlands?

Thank you,

Yes.  File Form 2555 with your tax return when you mail your tax return.  Any form, schedule or statement must be filed with your tax return.  Worksheets are not required to be mailed with your tax return.

Thanks for you answer.
Last one: can turbotax file 2555 and 1040 for me? Or do I need to mail it in person?

Only you can print, sign, date and mail your tax return to the IRS.
