A Race For Linux Users?

TT lost me to Block 10-15 years or so ago when they pulled their shenanigans with requiring the upgraded version for some capital gains stuff or some such that had been included in the basic version. Can’t remember the specifics. True they said oops and upgraded for free but the damage was done. Now I’m a good Capitalist and recognize Intuit’s right to do what it wants but I also can react how I want. I also noted TT’s lack of support for Win 10. Block is supposedly supporting it for ‘26 but I suspect it’ll be the last year. Many like me will not be “upgrading” to 11. I’ve installed Linux Mint on my two other machines and will be installing it on this one soon, probably dual boot with 10 until ‘26 taxes are done then a clean break from Windows, and from Block if necessary. So I come to my point. It seems there’re a lot of folks like me who don’t want to install 11 or who have perfectly good computers that can’t run 11 and are installing Linux and will buy the first version of tax software run under Linux. Come on TT, here’s your chance to win me back!

I think this is about the only s/w package you’re ever going to see that runs under Linux.

BTW, TurboTax will not only NOT have desktop software that runs under Linux, it will likely not have desktop (installed) software at all in a few years or so; everyone using DIY tax prep software will be relegated to using an online product.

Intuit probably aren’t racing to support another OS, they want you to use online/live. Live is now half the Turbotax revenue and grew 37%. Desktop has been declining 5-7% annually but they still have 4.1mil users, down only 300k - not much impact from the decision to drop Win 10.

It is possible to install W11 on a noncompliant PC. one is as a virtual machine which allows you to keep the W10 OS and the other is to install w11 as the sole OS. there is software that tricks the W11 os not to check that the all the OS requirements are met. I have both on computers without TPM, a 4000 series CPU and no safe boot. search the web for instructions in you are interested. It seems to me that TurboTax is trying to push users to the online versions (more profitable)
