I'm trying to free up space on my PC and File Explorer is showing multiple "Windows_ PC_TurboTax_Download; Download (1) and Download (2)". They are all from separate dates as much as a year apart. Can I safely remove 2 of them without jeopardizing the integrity of my TT files? They take up a lot of space.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Only if they are for the same year program. You should keep the latest newest one for each year. They shouldn’t affect your actual tax returns. Your returns end in .tax2024, .tax2023 etc. and should be in your documents in a Turbo Tax folder. The downloads are just the install files. And you can download them again from your Online account if you need to reinstall the program.
They don't seem to be from the same tax year given the time in between each update. I guess I'll leave them in place since I use the desktop version of TT I can't get them back from an online account, if things go wrong. I do have the tax returns for each year.
Thanks
Huh? Yes you can download them again if you need to reinstall the Desktop program.
Since you now have to log into an Intuit Account all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to download to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac).
Access your downloads here

When you log into your online Account and go to Products & Billing all your years are listed. If you click on Licenses and Downloads, at the top is…..Need a download or a download for a different operating system (Windows or Mac)? Where you can enter your license code.
Okay, thanks. I guess I don't understand how different programs and things work and interrelate. I was referring to the fact that my data is not backed up by Intuit since I use the desktop version. So I assumed if I got the program back as you explained it will just be a "blank" program with no data
Your data is kept separately from the program files. As I said above your tax return data files end in .tax2022, .tax2023, .tax2024 etc. You should be making backups of the .tax files and pdf files. They are in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder. Or search your computer for all files ending in .tax or .tax2024.
When you start the program if it doesn't open your return you go up to File-Open and it should list your returns. Have you been saving your returns? When you exit Turbo Tax it should ask if you want to save. Or go up to File-Save.

For 2024 Windows Desktop program the return is saved as filename….
