I created a blank file with nothing in it and it opened fine, so that's ONE time opened successfully. That mean there's absolutely been some bug with the software for years. This has driven me crazy because in prior years, this issue happened the due date when I needed to make a quick fix (so I couldn't use the PDF) before I tried printing. That was before I knew I could import from PDF so I had to rush to redo everything... I might need to test every single one of my types of incomes and deductions saved as its own file to find out what the issue is. I'll report back when I figure it out. Oh, I see there are now 2 users in this thread, which confused me at first.  😁    If this was a common occurrence in the software, with millions of users, the forum should have a lot of postings like yours, when I find only few about file corruption.  If you used Mac computers  up until that Windows 11 you've now tried, I would think it's something in the Mac OS settings.  But you'll know more about Macs than me.  But I know folks need to check for encryption/keychain issues, etc.

My Net Income from Schedule C is showing zero despite my expenses exceeding income. Also Schedule 1 not showing. As I entered my expenses, it kept reducing Federal tax due until it got to $790 and stopped. Additional expenses entered after that did not reduce the tax and did not move the needle. I have reported losses for the past 3 years in large part because I received some of my contract income on W2 instead of 1099, but continued to run my business 4 days per week while incurring Schedule 1 figures showed up on 1040 in previous years. What could I have answered differently and how can I get TurboTax to go over all the questions again?
Please clarify your question/issue.  Box 11 of Form 1099-R is for the "1st year of desig. Roth contrib.".

You probably have Line 32b marked instead on 32a marked on Schedule C.   Check that line and edit it if necessary.   Is my business investment at risk?    If 32b is marked, you can't claim a loss.    Your investment has to be marked ''at risk'' - - It is extremely rare for your business to be not at risk.     32a is the normal box to be marked there.

Hi Everyone, TLDR: How does a resident alien report a 1042S (income code 16, Box-3a: 00, Box-4a: 16) in addition to a W2 on TurboTax Desktop and also claim tax treaty benefits?  My current situation is the following:  I began my appointment at University X in MA on J1 Research Scholar status. My appointment ran from January 2024 to October 2025. I was invited and paid through my professor’s grant. In November 2025, I moved to University Y in CA, still under J1 Research Scholar status and still paid through my new professor’s grant also for the research I am doing.   For tax year 2025 I received a 1042S from University X and a W2 from University Y.   I have added my W2 income on TurboTax desktop, but I cannot understand how to correctly report the 1042S: whether as a Wages & Income>Less Common Income>Miscellaneous Income>Other reportable income or as Deductions & Credits>Education>Expenses and Scholarships. My second question is: how to claim tax treaty benefits between US and Italy for both the income from the W2 and the 1042S? Two additional details that might be important:  - I entered the US at the end of December, 2023 under my visa, and that is why I am considered a resident alien for 2025 under the Substantial Presence Test. - I believe that, based on my situation, I may be eligible to claim the benefits of the US–Italy tax treaty under Article 20 for tax year 2025, because my initial visit was expected not to exceed two years for the purpose of conducting research at a recognized educational institution, and because I was a resident of Italy immediately before coming to the US. Therefore, my first tax year was 2024 and my second is 2025.  Thank you for any help,

There are very few forum threads about file corruption of the *.tax2025 data file with every file save.    You didn't say if you are using a Windows 11 PC or a Mac (Sonoma 14 or higher.)  I'm suspicious it may be a Mac, however.   If so, have all the computers over the 5 years been Mac?   If you are using a Mac, is your data file unknowingly being encrypted in the keychain?  TurboTax will sometimes say a file is "corrupted" if it's password-protected/encrypted.

You must generally capitalize film production expenses and amortize them over time rather than deducting them all at once, particularly if the film is meant to be a business.   Key Considerations: Capitalizing Expenses: Generally, film production costs are treated as assets and capitalized. You recover these costs through depreciation, amortization, or cost of goods sold as the film generates revenue. Deduction (Section 181): Investors may elect to deduct qualifying production costs (paid before release) in the year they are incurred. No Income/Losses: If the project makes no money and is shelved, it may be possible to write off the expenses as a loss in a single tax year. However, if it is deemed a hobby rather than a business, deductions are limited by the "hobby loss" rules. Documentation: You must maintain detailed records to prove the activity is a bona fide business, not a hobby.

Change one of the HSA contribution amounts so it doesn't round up.  For example, change $562.50 to $562.00.

I got it after adding my son's 1098-T. The real reason why I wasn't eligible was making too much money, but the page said it was because (a) Somebody else can claim my son as a dependent on their return (FALSE), and (b) There were no net qualified education expenses (NO WORD ABOUT MY INCOME). I called support since the edu expenses were significant. Got disconnected once, and - later - the representative had to work with her supervisor. It took a while, but eventually they determined that it has to do with my income. The messages could be more clear, and they could display the income ranges that make people eligible under different filing circumstances. Not sure why TurboTax made me mess with that data entry when it already had the info that made me  not-eligible for the tax deduction.

Since you still own the land, the payment you received (like a right-of-way payment) is not taxable income. Instead, it reduces what you originally paid for the land (your basis).   Example: If the value of the land when you purchased it was $75,000 and received $10,000, your new basis is $65,000.   What to do in TurboTax Because you received a 1099, the IRS expects to see that income reported. To handle it correctly in TurboTax, you’ll enter it and then offset it so it’s not taxed. Follow these steps: Go to Federal Click Wages & Income Scroll down to Less Common Income Click Start/Revisit next to Miscellaneous Income Click Start/Revisit next to Other reportable income Now enter the information: First entry: Description: Right of way sold – basis adjustment Amount: Enter the full amount from your 1099 Second entry: Description: Right of way sold – basis adjustment Amount: Enter the same amount as a negative number. This way, TurboTax shows the IRS you reported the 1099, but the income is properly offset so you’re not taxed on it.

I would absolutely love to fix this issue. Last year I had to fix it the day that taxes were due before the post office closed... Seriously, are there any suggestions? I'm a programmer, so I'm pretty tech-savvy. The only thing that's been in common with this and my prior computer is that they had SSD's.
