Well, it wouldn't be another year of TurboTax if I didn't run into bugs... As you can see below, I'm on the "Other Interest and Dividends" page. For some inexplicable reason, the box next to "Received interest from a seller-financed mortgage" is pre-checked. I can't uncheck it, and I can't check "None of the above" either, though clicking the first box on & off does work. I suppose there's an IRS form somewhere that I can turn this off from, but haven't found it yet.

I spent 2 hours today with level 2 support. Confirmed that with TT Advantage, you CANNOT decline Audit defense if you choose to efile state. The issue is that if you efile state, you must pay for it. Any method you choose to pay requires you to log into your intuit account. When you log into your intuit account, it requires you first to enter Audit Defense personal information and agree to the terms before it takes you to a payment page. If you close the log in window and return to TT, you will find that it has now selected Audit defense even though you have not selected it. This is irrespective of whether you have chosen credit card only or have a prepaid credit for state filing. The only way to turn off Audit defense is to remove TT Advantage from your account.

Thank You. I understand that it doesn't make a difference because there is no taxable income. Do I even need to produce Schedule K1 with zero income? "Distributions to beneficiaries is the dispersal of income earned during the year from investments or other sources. Distributions can also be made from the original assets or principal left by the decedent or maker of the trust."

I am a stay at home mom to disabled son and have 2 additional children. I don’t make enough income to claim my children or even file my taxes. But everytime their dad tried (even before the new laws) he got audited. So we haven’t been able to claim our children for 8+ years. I’ve been doing research about the form 8332 - since he doesn’t reside with us - but still is often here to spend time with our kids and takes care of their needs. He even has all his mail mailed to our address bc he bounces from place to place & often those places don’t worry about him receiving his mail. So his mailing address is my/our kids but he doesn’t live in same household. Just get mail here for his safety bc he knows it will get to his hands not lost. We don’t have child support nor any court order visitations in place as that’s not needed - he gets them whenever they want or need. So how, if any way, can my kids dad claim our children. No one else can claim them (including me). So if he works and supports them OUTSIDE my household - why can’t he claim them? Or why has he been audited for claiming them before ? We even had to provide birth certificates for our sons to prove he was their biological father. - our daughter is 3. So she’s never been claimed before. He’s always scared to be audited bc everytime he’s claimed them that’s what happens. Even before the child must live w you for 6+m out of the year law. Please walk me step by step thru to allowing my kids father to claim his own children?

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner. The IRS does not allow you to take it back.
If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.” The changes will go nowhere.
Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.
Sometimes—not always— the IRS corrects your mistakes, while they are processing your return.
If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally. You will need to use a form called a 1040X.
Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed
The Form 1040X is scheduled to be available on March 4. The date is subject to change, so check on 3-4 to see if it is ready. Before that, do not change anything at all on your return.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds
To track your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh
.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst
If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act. Do not expect your refund before early March
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US
Note: “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”. TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing. Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing. If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.
FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE:
https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund
How it works
Where's My Refund shows your refund status:
Return Received – We received your return and are processing it.
Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

If you were legally married at the end of 2025, your filing choices are married filing jointly or married filing separately. If---and only if---you and your spouse lived apart for at least the last six months of 2025 and you have had custody of the children, you may be able to file as Head of Household.
I do not think the "what if" feature does a comparison between MFS and HOH, but since you have desktop software you can prepare unlimited returns. Prepare one for MFS and one for HOH and see what works out better for you.
